Excuses

For some reason, my wife decided to clean out our medicine cabinet on Saturday.  She has had several stays in the hospital with various problems and several doctors prescribing many different medicines.  Since some are high-powered stuff, she didn’t feel comfortable with all of them around, so Saturday just became the day to get rid of them.  Some were vitamins and natural supplements that had outlived their need.  Some were the wrong strength: too strong or too weak for her current needs.  Some were for problems that she had overcome, and some were painkillers that just needed to be discarded.  Drugs just shouldn’t be flushed down the toilet or dumped into the trash/landfills, because they will find their way into the public water system and do harm.  So, we bagged them and went down to the Police department in Ft. Oglethorpe to dispose of them.  But the office was closed; it was Saturday.  We had plenty of time, so I drove up to East Ridge to their police department.  Again, the office was closed because it was Saturday and growing later by the minute.  So, we just drove home.  The drug drop-off would have to wait for a better day.  But as a police cruiser drove by, I thought, if we were pulled over, how would I explain the bag-full of drugs in the back seat of the car?!  The officer has heard many excuses, no doubt, but mine would be a first for him.  Hey, when you pass into eternity and face your Maker one day, no excuse will do.  No explanation or story will work.  Only one thing will get you into heaven: do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?  Jesus is the only answer to any question you might be asked.  I’m certainly glad that I am part of God’s forever family.  Are you?!
