Working Together

Years ago, I was a worker in our church AWANA program.  (My wife liked my uniform with all of the pins and patches.)  We taught the kids many Bible verses, but they liked the game time.  One of the most challenging games was the three-legged race.  A clubber was paired up with another clubber and two of their legs were Velcroed together.  Many were comical as they struggled to work together to run around the game circle.  It took coordination to win the game.  Without teamwork, the three-legged race was almost impossible.  I was reminded of the teamwork that was used to bring the sick man to Jesus in Mark 2.  I’m sure that one person had the other three organized, but it took teamwork to get the man to Jesus where he could be healed of his palsy.  The man had to be brought to the house, taken up on the roof, and then let down through a hole that had been made in the roof.  But the best part of this true story was found in Mark 2:5, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”  The man’s sins were forgiven because of his friends’ faith in God.  Hey, do you have a friend who needs to get to Jesus?  Can you have faith for them?  Why not pray to the dear Lord about your friend’s need right now.  Your faith can release the Holy Spirit’s convicting power upon the life of someone in need.  You’ll be glad that you did.
