I Peter 3:8,10,11

I Peter 3:8,10,11 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. Our verses remind us to be doing good things. We don’t do good things in order to be saved, but we should do good things because we are saved. Christians should be good people doing good things. And our verse goes on to say that we should guard our tongue. It is hard not to say smarty things. It is also hard to say nice things when we would like to say smarty things. James 3 says that the tongue is the hardest thing to tame! Peter finishes by saying that we should eschew evil. That same word is used of Job. Do you remember the story of Job? Job wanted so much to please God and so much not to displease God. The Bible says that Job “Love God and eschewed evil.” Eschew means to avoid evil just like you would avoid a poisonous snake. Would you stay away from a poisonous snake? I would. So it is with evil. We should really really avoid evil. As Peter says, we should eschew evil and do good.
