I Peter 3:3,4

I Peter 3:3,4 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. We have several words in our verses that need explaining. Adorning means decoration. You may put bows in your hair – that is girls do. Not us boys. Plaiting of hair means to braid your hair. Apparel is an old word that means clothing. Here in these verses it means fancy dresses. So now we know what the words in our verses mean. But what is Peter saying about how women and girls, should dress? Some churches say that you should not wear jewelry or fix up your hair. But our verses also say wearing apparel. And I’m sure our verses are not saying not to wear clothes! Peter is saying that the most important thing for a Christian lady is what is in her heart, not what is on the outside. I do think that a Christian lady should dress appropriately, but Peter is saying here that the hidden man - what is on the inside - is the most important thing. The apostle Peter says that a Christian lady should have a meek and quiet spirit. This is not saying that she should be meek and quiet – it is saying that she should have a meek and quiet spirit. She should have her inside person under her control. If she has her spirit under control, God says that is of a great price. God really values a young lady who has her spirit under control. Are you under your own control? I hope so.
