Mark 6:41-44

Mark 6:41-44 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. And they did all eat, and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes. And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men. When Jesus had taught the people all day, it was time to send them home. But they didn’t want to go. They never tired of hearing Jesus explain the Scriptures to them. He made complicated ideas very simple. He made difficult passages in the dry Old Testament come alive. Jesus made everything easy to see. But then it was really getting late and everyone was tired and hungry. The children were crying and the old people didn’t think that they could make the long trip back to Capernaum before nightfall. But when Jesus asked the disciples to give everyone a snack before they got on their way, the disciples were almost broke. They had just a little money in Judas’ money bag. And all the food that they could find was one little boy’s lunch which was five homemade barley loaves and two small fish. But that was enough for Jesus to work with. When Jesus had prayed, He began to hand out food to the disciples. And somehow, the disciples handed out food to more and more people. The more that they handed out, the more that Jesus handed to them! And before long, everyone realized that a great miracle had taken place! All five thousand men ate and their wives and their children! And there were twelve baskets of leftovers! A good reminder: a full basket of leftovers for each of the twelve disciples. Once again, Jesus came through! He always does, you know!
