Mark 6:47-51

Mark 6:47-51 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. Many wonderful stories about Jesus occurred on or near the Sea of Galilee. Jesus used Capernaum as his home base and Hew was from the Galilee region. Many of His disciples were fishermen and Jesus frequently used their family fishing boats going back and forth across the eight mile width of the Sea of Galilee. There were mountains all around the Sea and storms often blew up without very much prior warning. Such was the case of our verses for today. The disciples were trying to make it back to Capernaum when a storm caught them off guard. Jesus knew that they needed Him, so, no problem, He just set out walking on top of the water going towards the other side! Wow! What a man! But as Jesus drew near to the ship that night, the disciples came unglued. They never expected to see someone walking on top of the water towards them! They cried out supposing the figure to be a ghost! Jesus spoke calming words to them and walked right up to the boat and climbed aboard! Immediately, the wind ceased! Once again, they were amazed at Jesus! First walking on water and then commanding the weather! What kind of a man were they following?! Jesus was no ordinary man, was He? He was not only a man, but He was the Son of God. Jesus was the One who had made the wind and the sea! Wow!
