Mark 7:7-9

Mark 7:7-9 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. Jesus was frustrated with the religious leaders of His day. Over the years, they went from obeying the Ten Commandments to keeping rules that only explained the Ten Commandments. For example, one commandment said to “remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy”. But the religious leaders said you couldn’t build a fire on the Sabbath day. You could only eat cold food. You couldn’t travel more than an eighth of a mile on the Sabbath day. All of these rules – and more – were added by mankind to God’s laws. And Jesus said that they were more concerned with man’s laws than with God’s laws. The religious leaders kept every little law, but completely missed the coming of their Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth! What a shame! I hope we value Jesus. I hope we put Him first in our worship. We should!
