Mark 9:2-7

Mark 9:2-7 ... Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Sometimes when we don’t know what to say, we just say the first thing that pops into our head. And that’s what Peter did. When Moses and Elijah came down from heaven to talk to Jesus, Peter spoke up and suggested that they make three tabernacles to honor all three. But God the Father’s booming voice came back reminding Peter that Jesus alone was worthy of worship. Moses was great and Elijah was great, but only Jesus was the very Son of God. I am sure that Peter meant well, but this was the second time that he was badly wrong. And so it is with us. We can honor people and honor saints of God who have gone on to heaven before us, but Jesus Christ alone is worthy of worship! Jesus Christ is our Savior and Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son!
