Hot or Cold?

I understand those heating and cooling mattresses.  I just can’t part with the money to buy one.  I wake up at night hot and throw off the covers, then wake up an hour later freezing and pull the covers back over me.  Forty years ago, my children developed a plan: “kick a leg out,” they called it.  If they were hot, they only put one foot out from in under the covers.  That cool leg balanced the rest of their warm covered body, and they were able to sleep, temperature-regulated.  Clever right?  Hey, I am the same way … but spiritually.  Some days I feel the weight of my sin, and I need God’s mercy (not giving me the judgement that I deserve).  But some mornings, I wake up fresh feeling God’s grace (giving me love and acceptance from the good Lord that I don’t deserve).  Like my hot and cold kids, I swing between God’s mercy and God’s grace.  But this morning, as I pray forgiveness for selfish thoughts, I am overwhelmed by God’s goodness, and I feel both.  I have spiritually, kicked a leg out!  Romans 2:4, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”  Thank you, dear Lord, for your goodness this morning, is my prayer.  Want to join me in that prayer?  Ain’t God good?!
