Soberly

The leading cause of injuries in old men is … old men thinking that they are still young men.  I can relate to that.  I look in the mirror and say to myself, “Who is that old man staring at me?”  Paul reminded us to think honestly about ourselves.  He said in Romans 12:3, “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”  There is a balance in how we see ourselves: we are all sinners in need of a Savior.  But we are so valuable to God that Christ Jesus gave His life for the likes of us.  So, my advice (and the apostle Paul’s advice too) is to think soberly (seriously) about ourselves.  Sort of like Goldilocks: not too lowly, not too highly, just right.
