Saturday afternoon, I was Santa for a community event at Heritage Walk, just off Jenkins Road in East Brainerd (thank you Hillary M. for planning the event). I enjoyed the children and the adults. Entertaining live music, great fake snow, fun bouncy house, and yummy food trucks. But I was on duty so I couldn’t really enjoy the afternoon. I had a good time anyway. But after dark, the activities slowed and I had too much time on my hands. I had met several folk, but I didn’t really know anyone. And then I became melancholy. Without my wife, I had no accountability. And to be honest, no one in the whole world knew that I was there. If I had passed out, my wallet and phone were in my car, and no one knew which car was mine. I had keys in my Santa pants, but no ID or no name at all. No one knew my real name; no one really knew who I was. And I felt lonely. But then I remembered my heavenly Father. Almighty God knew exactly where I was, and He was as close as a prayer away. David said in Psalm 139:1&2, “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.” Hey, the good Lord knows exactly where I am! And … when you feel alone, remember, the good Lord knows exactly where you are. You are loved; you are seen, and you are cared for by your heavenly Father.
