I’ve been making a quilt for a dear friend sewing at the dining room table. And as I often do, I got too immersed in my work. I heard an unusual noise, so I stopped sewing and looked around to see what had happened. The creeping pile of sewn squares that were accumulating behind my sewing machine had pushed my pin container off the table, and 200 straight pins were now scattered all over the floor. I was facing a considerable sewing slowdown. But I had a clever idea: I got a metal wrench and a magnet from my collection and made short work of those pesky pins. I watched with fascination as the pins were drawn to the wrench by the invisible magnetic force. How illustrative of the blessed Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit isn’t a force, He is the third person of the Trinity. And, like a magnet, the Holy Spirit is invisible and draws us towards God. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” What a wonderful Teacher we have in the Holy Spirit! He is quietly guiding and drawing us closer to God. Hey, are you listening to the Holy Spirit? Do you obey His prompting? Why not listen to God today and, like my magnet and pins, let the Holy Spirit draw you closer to God today?
