Wisdom from a Cowboy

I cut the cable two weeks ago.  I think my life is better without the 24 hour a day news cycle.  The President can find me number if he needs me.  Otherwise, I’ll let him do his job without my help.  I have weather and Gunsmoke on Roku plus the old-school movies that I have already watched 10 times.  They’re great because I can go to the bathroom, get a snack, come back, and have not missed a thing.  Monday morning, I got some great wisdom from a cowboy on Gunsmoke.  He was talking to a saloon girl and said, “You spend your life looking for something, and when you get it, you spend the rest of your life trying to hang onto it.  It’s better not to have anything, then you don’t worry about losing it.”  But the girl countered, “Some things are worth taking a chance on.  Even if you lose it, it was worth having, even for a brief time.”  Both had valid points, but the girl had a stronger position.  The cowboy lived every day in fear of losing something dear, but the girl lived everyday with hope.  Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 2:15, “Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.”  Solomon’s point was, we will all die, so do want is right and enjoy the days that you have.  Solomon went on to say in Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”  Good conclusion Solomon.  I think that I’ll fear God and live for Him.  Sounds like a plan.  So, … what about you?
