Joe Williams

I have a known Joe Williams for over 53 years. When Joe Married his wife, Patty, I was honored to stand up in their wedding. They went on a weeklong honeymoon. But while they were gone, some of Joe’s “friends” (not me) went over to their apartment and peeled off all of the labels on the cans in their cabinets. When Patty and Joe got back, every meal was an adventure. They would select three cans and open them. Whatever was in those three unlabeled cans, that was their meal. Some evenings it was good, and some evenings it wasn’t very good. It took creativity to make the items work, but every meal was a surprise. Hey, that’s what our lives are like. Every day is new and unknown to us. We may have great joy with the birth of a baby, or we may have great sorrow with the passing of a loved one, but each day is an adventure. Solomon said in Proverbs 27:1, “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” We have no idea what tomorrow has in store for us, but we can take comfort in the knowledge that the dear Lord is already there and waiting to be with us in joy or in sorrow. Tomorrow morning is like a tin can without a label. It might be cherry pie filling, or it might be asparagus. But good or bad, Jesus will be right there with us. And you can count on it!
