Help Wanted

My wife and I were frustrated and saddened today as we stopped by to get a meal at Steak and Shake.  They had a sign announcing, “No wait staff.  Order at the counter.”  We ordered, paid for our meal, got a receipt, and found an open booth.  In a moment, we heard the fellow behind the counter announce, “Number 865!”  I looked at our receipt and we were fourth in line.  The time was when you were seated by the hostess and chatted leisurely until a waitress dropped off menus.  Then she took your order bringing your drinks out a few minutes later.  In five minutes or so she brought out your order.  She stopped by with refills, condiments, and mentioned shakes that were available.  But no more.  They don’t have enough people to work!  Our country has been ruined by politicians (on both sides of the aisle) who are throwing money (that we don’t have) at problems that we ourselves would solve if we went just went to work!  But before you shout “Amen!” too loudly, we have the same problem in the church.  We need workers at Calvary Baptist Church right now!  We need special music singers; we need nursery workers; we need Sunday school teachers and helpers; we need folk to pick up kids with the church vans; we need people to vacuum the church house for Sunday … and the list goes on and on.  Hey, Jesus felt the same frustration in His day!  He saw the multitudes, and He saw their spiritual need.  It broke His heart, and He told His disciples in Matthew 9:37&38, “… The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”  Hey, that’s my plea to you right now!  We need workers!  Please!  Get up off the couch and get busy for God!  “Apply in person” at the church house!
