When I was young, I ran like the wind, climbed trees, and had stamina to last all day. But now … things are different. I have had knee arthroscopy and have gone through rotator cuff physical therapy several times. A week ago, as we left church and merged onto the interstate, a TDOT sign warned, “Shoulder Work 3 Miles.” What the sign said and what the sign meant to me were totally different. Solomon knew that learning and understanding were similar, but different. There are facts in life to be learned, but the application of those facts is true wisdom. Solomon said in Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” What is said and what is understood are often not the same. Open your books and get wisdom but open your heart to the dear Lord and get eternal understanding. Don’t become an educated fool. Put God first in your life, and you will have true wisdom and true understanding.
