I heard a sermon last week and, just in passing, the preacher mentioned a Bible character who ran from the Lord. And I began to think, “When you run from the Lord, it never ends well.” Adam hid from the Lord because he and Eve had sinned. And all of his descendants are still paying for his sin. Moses ran from the Lord’s call upon his life. He wasted 40 years of his life because of his rebellion. Elijah fled from Jezebel neglecting the promises of God pouting in his disobedience. God had to take him to heaven because his usefulness was over. Jonah fled from God, and the shipping company lost a shipload of wares … and almost lost their lives. After 3 days and 3 nights in the deep, Jonah finally did God’s bidding, but only with an attitude. Peter walked with Jesus for 3 years but bailed out on the Lord when Jesus needed him the most. But the resurrected Savior sought out Peter giving him a second chance. A reformed Peter preached the Gospel on the day of Pentecost and saw 3,000 converts respond to his preaching! And then there was Gerald Whitely, who failed in college and ran from the Lord. God used a faithful wife to turn him around. Hey, could you insert your name into my list?! Paul said in I Corinthians 6:11, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” Remember, it’s not about your past; it’s all about your future!
