A Story

I enjoy reading.  Books, that is.  Not newspapers, because they never have good news.  The last good-news newspaper that I read was the Grit Newspaper, which was 10¢ back in 1961.  And most books that I read are non-fiction because I read them for information.  But occasionally, I like to read a good story.  But as I get into a story, I am intrigued by the characters, the plot, and the action because I don’t know what is going to happen.  Occasionally, a book will have a sad ending.  And I don’t like that.  If I wanted a sad ending, I would read the newspaper.  Then some books have a happy ending.  I like it when characters live ‘happy ever after’.  It puts a smile on my face.  And then sometimes, like “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens, the ending is disappointing.  The hero and the girl never got together in the end.  Bummer.  But with fiction, the author knows where he is going with the plot and with the characters.  The author can manipulate the action to reveal solid character in people and flaws in others.  Upright characters are cheered on to win and flawed characters, we hope, get what’s coming to them in the end.  But the author knows what he is developing and how each event works toward his intended ending.  Hey, the dear Lord knows the future and knows our each decision.  God is working out His will each day for our good and for His glory.  Romans 8:28  David wisely said in Psalm 37:37&38, “Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.”  Do you want your story to be marked by peace or do you want to be cut off?  Then follow God today.  It’s not easy, but it is peaceful.  Yes, it is.
