Enjoying the River

We are blessed with many creeks and rivers in the Chattanooga area.  Often, we would go tubing on the Hiawassee river.  We would rent truck tire innertubes, throw the tubes on the platform on the top of the big yellow bus, and pile in for the curvy ride over the mountain above Reliance, Tennessee to the put-in place.  TVA would release the water about 9 am, and the fun would begin.  The Hiawasee is a ‘tame’ river with few rapids (as opposed to the Ocoee River with class III and IV rapids).  It was relaxing to sit in the innertube in the heat of the summer and float down the river in the cool water.  But occasionally, rough water would come, and your butt got bumped on the rocks hidden under the water.  After a few bumps, another stretch of calm water.  Hey, the Hiawassee river is like life: unpredictable with stretches of relaxation interrupted by moments of bumpy water.  You may be going through rough water right now, but hang on.  Trust in the Lord: smoother water is ahead.  You may get bumped a little and the rapids may be longer than you like, but hang on: calmer waters are ahead.  God will watch over you until the end of the river-run, and he will be there to pick you up in that big yellow bus to take you home.  Proverbs 3:5&6, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
