Turn Left

 

I have had one cataract removed and the other should be surgeryfied on July 30.  This has required several trips to South East Eye Specialists just off Gunbarrel Road.  They’re on Jarnigan Road, a tiny road and terrible to turn onto because of heavy traffic on Gunbarrel.  But I have a secret plan: I turn at the traffic light a block before, drive through the neighborhood, and end up at the eye clinic coming from the back.  I felt so clever!  But Thursday when I was leaving, traffic was backed up on little Jarnigan getting onto Gunbarrel.  Some lady was turning left onto Gunbarrel and had five of us stuck behind her.  Everyone else was turning right, but Jarnigan Rd. is so narrow that we all had to wait for her to turn left so that we could turn right.  And … Gunbarrel has a turn lane that she could have pulled out onto!  But she was overly cautious and we all had to wait.  I was reminded of Achan in the Old Testament.  Achan was guilty of disobeying God and causing the death of 38 innocent soldiers.  Joshua 7:24&25, “And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor .. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.”  Achan paid for his sin with his life.  But Achan’s family and Achan’s livestock paid the price for Achan’s sin along with him.  This story does not show God’s brutality; this story illustrates the evil of sin and sin’s odiousness before a righteous God!  Hey, innocent people often suffer because of another … although me having to wait for traffic and Achan’s family being stoned is a whole different level!  So, what about you?  Are younger siblings following your example?  Are you leading your family in the ways of the Lord?  Do your neighbors see a Godly example in your life?  Or are you giving them an excuse to live licentiously?  Is your life example good or is your life example poor?  Think about it.
