I ate supper Friday evening at McAllister’s with my daughter, her husband, and my grandson. We had a great meal and even better conversation. I saved my cup of delicious potato salad for the last. We used to teach our children, “The last the best, the first the worst.” But Friday night, everything was good! I had calculated my last two bites to leave an extra large bite for the very last. I had it on my spoon, but I had miscalculated – it was a bit too big. It rolled off my spoon, onto my shirt, down my pants, onto my boot, and onto the floor. Bummer. I adhere to the 5 second rule for rolls, sliced bread, and the like, but gooey potato salad … well, it was just lost. And everything was spoiled. All three of my fam laughed at my calamity. They actually may have laughed a bit harder at my disappointed look. I was so counting on that final bite, only to be robbed. My final bite actually turned out to be the bite before my ‘final bite’ (the bite that got away), but I hadn’t enjoyed it since I thought that I had one more bite coming. Hey, have you had plans that didn’t work out the way that you were hoping? You had everything all laid out just so so, but your plan fell apart, like my last bite there on the floor. God has a plan too. And God’s master plan will come to pass. God’s master plan includes our decisions and mistakes … He knows them all, and God uses them for our good and His glory. Proverbs 16:33, “The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.” We think we know what we are doing, but only the dear Lord really knows. And I am glad that I can trust my heavenly Father. God even knew that I didn’t need that last bite of potato salad.
