Germination

Ecclesiastes 11:6, “In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.”  I bought a packet of seeds years ago that had written in the back, “85% germination.”  What did that mean?  Well, it meant that 85 out of 100 seeds would produce a plant.  Conversely, it meant that 15% of the seeds would NOT produce a plant.  So, did I examine each of the seeds to determine which I thought would produce and which would not?  Of course not.  I just planted them all and left the germination to the Lord.  When we are kind, some folk will return our kindness with kindness, but others will not.  They will just shrug and take advantage of our kindness.  When we offer Gospel literature to someone, they may take it, or they may not take it.  But if we do not offer it to them, they cannot make the decision to accept it or not.  It is as if we are not planting any seed at all.  Luke 8:5-8, “A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side … some fell upon a rock … some fell among thorns … and other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold ...”  Give the seed to everyone indiscriminately.  Don’t waste time examining the seed; just sow the seed, with a smile on your face.  And when you do, Jesus Christ will have a smile on His face.  Yes, He will!
