Hide and Seek

When I was young, I had an advantage over kids of today.  You see, I didn’t have a cell phone or a tablet.  My parents barely had a TV.  It was black and white and really tiny.  I played outside and we made our own fun; we had to be creative.  We played “Annie Over”, “Kick the Can”, and “Hide and Seek”.  I had to interact with other kids, younger and older, easy going and selfish.  So, I learned social skills early in life.  But my younger brother, Phillip was no fun.  He took games too seriously (if there is such a thing).  Phillip would hide and after everyone had been found, we would yell out, “OK, Phillip, you won!”  But he wouldn’t come out of hiding.  We would yell out once again, but still nothing.  Then we would mount a full-scale search for Phillip.  It was only when my dad came out and announced, “OK, kids, it’s time to get into the car and go home,” that Phillip would drop out of a tree or slide out of a culvert from in under the road.  Phillip just took the game of Hide and Seek too far.  You see, the object of Hide and Seek is to be found.  Oh, it’s great to have a good hiding place, but to never be found … poor form, Phillip.  Hey, that’s the way it is in the game of life.  We hide from God (or so we think) without realizing that we need to be found.  Oh, God knows where we are, but we need to let God find us for our own benefit.  We need to turn to the dear Lord while there is an opportunity, because there will come a day when our hearts are hardened.  Isaiah said in Isaiah 55:6&7, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”  If we harden our hearts; if we hide from God too long; God will turn us over to our own wicked devices.  He will let us hide.  And oh, what a sad day that will be.  Hey, turn to the dear Lord while He is tenderly calling to you, or you may never be found.
