Traps

We had our first cold snap (actually only a cool snap) this morning, and it felt great!  My wife doesn’t like the cold weather, and I feel sorry for her, but I am excited to see fall and winter coming.  She had spring and summer, and not it’s my turn.  That’s fair, isn’t it?!  Anyway, I have set out a couple of mouse traps preparing for shivering mice who are looking for warmer accommodations.  I don’t have anything against mice.  They are so cute and teeny-tiny.  It’s just those beady black eyes and sneaky behavior that disgusts me.  If they stay outside, they are fine; but if they come inside, it’s war!  The key to trapping a mouse is the bait.  I favor cheese.  It can be secured on the trap and won’t come off like peanut butter (that can be carefully licked off).  To get the morsel of cheese off the trap, a little tug is required.  And that’s where the mouse gets caught.  Hey, Satan uses subtle bait to trap unsuspecting folk too.  He is careful and uses just the proper bait that attracts us.  For one he uses lust; for another he uses pride; and for another he uses greed.  Satan has various baits and is clever in his use of them.  Initially, Satan is satisfied with just a little sin, which leads to bigger and bigger sins.  Ultimately, Satan springs his trap, and we are caught.  James said in James 1:15, “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”  What a dangerous progression.  Hey, watch out for Satan’s bait this fall.  Don’t fall for them (sorry about the pun).
